SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY The incumbent has no direct supervisory responsibility but provides technical guidance, mentoring, and advisory support to Ministry staff and stakeholders involved in crop production and development, and climate-smart agriculture practices. The position conducts pest and disease surveillance, investigates outbreaks, promotes integrated pest management (IPM), and provides technical guidance on sustainable crop protection and safe pesticide use. The role coordinates with extension personnel, research, and regulatory institutions. It maintains crop protection databases, ensures compliance with national phytosanitary regulations and pesticide management standards, and prepares technical reports to support evidence-based decision-making and effective program implementation. GENERAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing national crop protection programs, policies, and strategies within your assigned area. • Coordinate crop protection activities with County Agriculture Coordinators, extension staff, research institutions, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. • Prepare and submit technical reports, pest surveillance updates, and recommendations in line with Ministry of Agriculture reporting requirements. • Maintain accurate records and databases on pest and disease occurrences, surveillance results, pesticide use, and crop protection measures. • Ensure compliance with national crop protection policies, phytosanitary regulations, pesticide management standards, and relevant international conventions and protocols. a. CORE TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conduct regular surveillance and field inspections to detect, identify, and assess the incidence and severity of crop pests, diseases, and invasive species. • Develop and promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, and provide technical guidance on sustainable crop protection practices. • Investigate pest and disease outbreaks, recommend control measures, and coordinate rapid response interventions to minimize crop losses. • Provide technical expertise in the development of crop protection tools, manuals, and guidelines. • Assess farm ecosystem pollution resulting from pesticide applications and promote safe use of agrochemicals. • Coordinate pest surveillance, sample collection, diagnosis, and reporting in collaboration with extension personnel, research institutions, diagnostic laboratories, and regulatory agencies. • Train and mentor extension personnel, farmers, producer organizations, and stakeholders on pest identification, disease diagnosis, integrated pest management, and safe pesticide use. • Prepare and submit timely technical reports on pest surveillance, disease outbreaks, crop protection interventions, and emerging plant health risks. DUTY STATION: Applicants must indicate the Regional Office for which they are applying. The Ministry of Agriculture has five Regional Offices. Region 1 - Tubmanburg (Bomi County); Region 2 - Gbarnga (Bong County); Region 3 - Buchanan (Grand Bassa County); Region 4 - Zwedru (Grand Gedeh County); and Region 5 - Barclayville (Grand Kru County).
