SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY The incumbent has no direct supervisory responsibility. S/he provides technical guidance, advisory support to the farmer cooperatives, farmer association, and individual farmers. The role promotes Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP), biosecurity, climate-smart livestock management, and disease prevention. Responsibilities include supporting disease surveillance, farmer training, and advisory services, and collecting and managing livestock data. The technician also facilitates stakeholder collaboration and contributes to evidence-based planning, sustainable livestock development, and integrated crop-livestock systems to improve productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods. KEY RESULT AREAS: • Livestock Extension and Animal Health Service Delivery • Livestock Disease Surveillance and Animal Health Management • Livestock Information and Data Management • Promotion of Sustainable Livestock Production • Capacity Building and Stakeholder Development MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a. GENERAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: • Implement annual and quarterly work plans to support livestock production and animal health targets. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with livestock farmers, producer organizations, cooperatives, local communities, and other stakeholders to strengthen livestock service delivery. • Support the collection, compilation, verification, analysis, and reporting of livestock production, animal health, and extension data to facilitate planning, monitoring, and evidence-based decision-making. • Monitor the implementation of livestock extension and animal health activities, identify operational challenges, and recommend corrective actions to improve service delivery. • Coordinate livestock extension and animal health activities with Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (AEAS) providers, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders. • Promote collaboration with Clan Crop Technicians and other extension personnel to strengthen integrated crop-livestock production systems and coordinated agricultural extension service delivery. • Support the implementation of livestock development programs, surveys, assessments, and other assigned field activities. 2 b. CORE TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide frontline technical support and advisory services to livestock farmers on improved livestock production, Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP), animal nutrition, breeding, housing, sanitation, biosecurity, animal welfare, and climate-smart livestock management. • Conduct regular farm visits to provide extension and advisory services, identify production constraints, and recommend livestock management practices to improve productivity and animal health. • Support livestock disease surveillance by detecting, reporting, and responding to suspected outbreaks and assisting with the collection, handling, and transportation of animal samples for laboratory diagnosis. • Promote biosecurity measures, animal health awareness, and disease prevention practices among livestock farmers, Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), and producer organizations. • Organize and conduct farmer demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and training activities to promote improved livestock production technologies and sustainable livestock management practices. • Support the organization and implementation of farmer training, demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and other capacity-building activities on livestock production, animal health, and Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP). • Maintain accurate records of livestock populations, disease occurrence, vaccinations, extension activities, and other technical information, and prepare timely reports.
